Little does attorney Hiram Garbuncle know the danger he’s getting into when he reluctantly defends an immigrant brutally beaten by two policemen during a traffic stop and charged with resisting arrest.
Garbuncle woos the judge in arguing a legal conundrum, but the attorney’s courtroom remarks and outlandish attire comedically startle His Honor. In jury selection before the trial, Garbuncle is overconfident and his negligence in jury selection results in a mistrial. He then discovers incriminating evidence against the cops, and is aided in the probe by his burly apartment tenant after a tug of war brought on by the attorney’s miserly ways. But when the woman Garbuncle falls in love with is caught up in the investigation, tragedy looms.
Plot twists and turns take the reader on a suspense-filled roller coaster ride as the attorney’s new challenge becomes keeping himself and his client alive pending a new trial.
